A men’s suit is not just a piece of clothing, but also an expression of style and taste. Although suits may seem similar, there are two dominant styles in the world – British and Italian, which differ in both cut and detail. These differences are rooted in the mentality and perception of elegance of each nation, creating a unique approach to classic men’s clothing.
In general, at first glance, both British and Italian jackets may look similar, but when you look closer at the details, it becomes clear to which style each jacket belongs. For example, when it comes to jacket lapels, in the Italian style they are placed higher, closer to the shoulder, while in British style jackets they are lower. Italians like a slimmer, upwardly stretched silhouette, while the British prefer heavier and wider shapes. Similar differences can be seen in the waist of the jacket – Italian suits are tight-fitting, while the British style is characterized by a looser cut and straighter lines.
When it comes to trousers, the British traditionally choose classic, straight-cut trousers without lapels and with belt loops. The Italians, on the other hand, experiment with details – their trousers often feature pleats, a raised waist, buckles at the waist and also turned-up trouser hems.
Both British and Italian suits are elegant and stylish, yet they reflect different approaches to men’s fashion. British suits are distinguished by a conservative, structured silhouette, while the Italian style is more dynamic and freer in design. When choosing between these two styles, it is important to take into account not only fashion, but also your body type and personal taste, so that the suit looks both stylish and appropriate for your individual image.
